e-livestock can be used with any animal identificator, but it only reaches its maximum advantages when used with electronic animal identification. Therefore, the production mode that integrates electronic components has two main divisions that we call: Primary and Additional Technologies.

» Primary technologies
They are the ones that allow the animal to be identificated, and they also automate the retrieval and storage of the data generated in daily routine tasks.

The main device in this level is the identificator itself, which could be a regular eartag or one with barcode or a passive electronic chip. Its main advantage is that it stays with the animal it identifies throughout the whole life and it can be read using a barcode reader or a radiofrequency antenna and a reader (static or mobile). Depending in the region of the body where they are located, we can find two types of identificators:

• Ruminal Bolus with electronic chip.
• Regular eartag, with barcode or chip.

In our experimental case we have chosen the electronic method, where the radiofrequency antenna and the reader, along with the identificator of choice (in our case, the ruminal bolus) are the primary technology that, when conveniently operated, allow to acknowledge, retrieve and store the important data after reading the ISO code in the chip. This code is unique and unrepeatable, and the device sends it each time it is read by the radiofrequency antenna when the animal goes nearby. This information is stored temporarily in the reader to be downloaded to another media or uploaded to a database.

The readers can be:
Mobile: Allowing to be taken where the animal is.
Static: Generally attached to a cattleway or integrated to routine cattle control facilities.

The choice of these primary technologies is entirely at the client's discretion. However, we will assess the needs, possibilities or desire and provide consulting services to facilitate decision-making.

» Additional Technologies
These are the complementary devices that ease the data processing tasks and enhance the system features we provide.
Such technologies are IT-based, like computers, energy supply devices (UPS, Solar panels, batteries), switches, specific encoders and telecommunication networks. Among these you can find an IP-directionable webcam for a monitoring module we have included in which you can follow your production visually from anywhere.

The e-livestock data management guarantees the operation using the best servers and hardware to assure availability of your information 24/7, providing the following services:
• Exclusive use to store information straight from the routine tasks and cattle processes into the centralized database.
• Direct connection to the internet to provide full accessability at all times.
• Bandwidth allowance based in transfer requirements in order to prevent response time-outs or slowdowns in the use of the system at the high-peak transfer hours.
• The right media for security backups and safety in the way information is mantained in the database.
